A lightweight, impact-resistant protective foam for packaging and transit — 21 kg/m³ density, 130 Newton firmness, black, cut in the UK.
Important: this foam is not fire rated and must not be used for upholstery. It carries no Crib 5 certification. It is intended for protection and packing only. If you are making or re-covering furniture, use one of our Crib 5 rated upholstery foams instead.
For its intended purpose, it does the job well. It is light, it absorbs impact, and it cuts cleanly — which is what you want when you are protecting something valuable in transit.

Questions about this foam
Why can’t I use this for a cushion, even though it is cheaper?
Because it is not fire rated. UK upholstery foam must meet the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire Safety) Regulations, and this foam carries no Crib 5 certification. Using it in furniture would be unsafe and would put you outside those regulations. The saving is not worth it.
What is the difference between this and closed cell foam?
This is an open cell polyurethane foam: light, absorbent, good at cushioning impact. Our Plastazote LD33 is a closed cell polyethylene foam: it is water resistant, buoyant, tougher, and can be heat moulded. For general boxing and padding, this foam is the practical choice. For high-value equipment, precision cut trays or anything near water, choose the Plastazote.
At 21 kg/m³ this is your lowest density foam. Does that matter here?
Not for this purpose. Low density is an advantage in packaging — it keeps the weight and shipping cost down while still absorbing impact. Density matters most where a foam is being sat on repeatedly, which is not what this is for.
